DAY 0: JOMO KENYATTA AIRPORT AND TRANSFER TO NAIROBI

We will leave from Nairobi for the first destination not later than 6 a.m.

We recommend you to stay one night in Nairobi the day before your safari. You can use this time visiting the city and its main attractions: David Sheldrick Orphanage, Giraffe Centre and Karen Blixen Museum. Or you can just rest and refresh up after your flight.

You will meet your guide/driver on the following day , leaving for the first destination.

We wish to suggest you some accomodation you would love:

DAY 1: SAMBURU

You’ll leave behind Kenya’s capital city very early this morning and cross the equator line travelling to Samburu National Reserve, a remote and pristine protected area, far away from mass market tourism.

You will travel for about 6 hours enjoying spectacular landscapes among Aberdare Ranges forests, coffee plantations, the majestic Mount Kenya views and golden fields of mais.

You will reach Samburu National Reserve in the late morning.

Brief game drive en route to your camp and lunch.

Afternoon game drive in the Reserve in search of the Special 5 and the elusive leopard.

This is your typical enchanting African landscape that attracts a wide variety of game including the Grevy zebra, the biggest zebra in Africa.

Dinner at the camp.

We have selected the best accomodation for you. You can choose between:

DAY 2: SAMBURU

Enjoy great game drives and the stunning wildlife of Samburu today.

The stars of the show up here in the remote north are undoubtedly the Special 5, a rare collection of unusual animals not found in the southern reserves. Gerenuk, Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich and Oryx Beisa.

In the late afternoon, stop on a hill and watch the captivating sunset with a drink in hand!

Dinner and overstay at your camp.

DAY 3: MERU

Enjoy a hearty breakfast before you are driven to 870 square kilometers of authentic wilderness, Meru National Park.

Before to reach the main road you will have your last morning game drive in Samburu, en route towards the exit.

The transfer from Samburu National Reserve to Meru National Park is not long: approximately 2 hour drive, among evergreen landscapes.

Once you enter Meru National Park you will start to explore the vast expanses of savannah and jungle without the buzz of other tourists, seeking for rhinos and leopards.

You will reach the lodge for lunch and you will relax and refresh in your cottage, nestled into the hillside and overlooking the vast plains of Meru. The lodge where you will stay is sculpted into Mughwango Hill, above the site of George Adamson’s original camp where he raised and released orphan lions, long before conservation became fashionable.

Afternoon game drive within the Park. You may decide to go and visit Elsa the lioness’ grave.

Dinner at the lodge.

This is the best accomodation we have selected just for you:

DAY 4: MERU

Game viewing in the Meru National Park today.

The touching story of Elsa the orphaned lion cub who was raised by Joy and George Adamson in an attempt to rehabilitate her is well known.

The success of the rehabilitation is brought to life here and it’s easy to get caught up in the emotion of the tale if you take the time to visit Elsa’s grave.

Lunch and dinner at the camp.

DAY 5: SOLIO RANCH

Abandon Meru National Park and move to Solio Ranch, a special private reserve nestled between the snow-capped Mount Kenya and the Aberdares.

You will arrive to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will have a trhilling game drive in the private reserve, home to a great population of well-protected white and black rhino in a more temperate climate at this higher altitude.

You may decide to stay 15 minutes away from the ranch, at Aberdare Country Club, a high level lodge, or inside the ranch at Solio Lodge, one of The Safari Collection’s luxury lodges.

We have selected the best accomodation for you. You can choose between:

DAY 6: YOUR JOURNEY ENDS

It’s time to bid farewell to the bush.

After breakfast you will go back to Nairobi in time to connect with your international flight or domestic flight to the coast for a Beach Holiday: you may choose to stay at our exclusive Nyumba ya Paka Boutique Hotel or you can rent our whole villa Lions House, if you are a big group.

EXTENSION

If you have more time and would like to reduce the distances, you can decide to spend an extra night in Aberdare National Park, as first destination, and take the opportunity to see one of the most beautiful and scenic park in Kenya. In this case Aberdare N.P. will be visited before to travel to Samburu.

Also, you may decide to add an extra night at Lake Naivasha, after the visit to Solio Ranch, to have the opportunity to have a fantastic boat trip to watch hippos and fish eagles close-up. You will stay at Elsamere, which was Joy Adamson’s holiday home. Elsamere is a lodge, a museum and a conservation centre for endangered species. Booking one night here will allow you to have a interesting trip on  the footprints of Elsa the lioness and Adamsons’ life, the first conservationists.
